I've found love and it's this grape popsicle scented exfoliator. If you remember, a few weeks ago I wrote about the Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off. Back then I mentioned there are two types of exfoliators, manual and chemical. When I heard that the Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine is a manual exfoliator and a chemical exfoliator, I had to give it a shot. A brief review for those of you who may not remember, a manual exfoliator removes skin when the product or instrument is rubbed against the skin. A chemical exfoliator uses chemicals to encourage the skin to shed its upper layers. The Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine does both. It's a physical exfoliator because it's a gauze pad that you rub against your face and it's a chemical exfoliator because it contains AHAs such as glycolic acid, tartaric acid, and lactic acid. AHAs are Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which encourages the cells to detach from one another. It's particularly good for dry skin and for repairing sun damage.
Other ingredients include Glycerin (as previously mentioned in my blog), Rubus Ideaus (raspberry) Fruit Extract which has antioxidant and antibacterial properties and Vitis Vinifera Seed (grape seed) Extract which protects the skin from free radical damage and of course, the product's namesake Resveratrol (found in red wine). It reduces sun damage and encourages the production of collagen in the skin.

From the outside of the clear container it just looks like a bunch of gauze pads half soaked in a bunch of mysterious purple liquid. The packaging promises that it "promotes visibly clearer, smoother & tighter skin".
I've never used a chemical exfoliator before so I wasn't sure what exactly to expect. I knew in theory what they do but that was it. I opened the container and the scent was just like a melted grape popsicle. No joke. There are some people who really hate the scent but I have to resist the urge to eat it every time I use it. That's how much I like it xD
After washing my face, I take out one of the pads and slip it onto my fingers. There are two sides to the pad. One is more rough and the other is soft. First I use the rough side and gently rub in a circular motion around my face. Then I turn it around and use the soft side. After I use the pad the rough side is usually lighter and has a kind of yellowish tint to it (is it my skin or remnants of my makeup?-- I should try it on a day I don't wear makeup). The soft side usually just looks lighter, as if the product has been transferred to my skin.

I then pat the excess product into my skin, give my face as quick rinse with water, and then relish in how smooth my skin feels. No joke. Sometimes I can't help from reaching up and feeling how smooth my skin is after I use the Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine. It's good that I live alone because any observer would think it's hella weird if they saw me absentmindedly stroking my face as I use the computer. I'm not 100% sure that the Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine is effective as a chemical exfoliator. Since the instructions say to rinse your face after you use it, I've read that generally rinse off products do not allow enough time for the AHAs to absorb into the skin and thus aren't effective. However I have seen noticeable results, meaning it is effective as an exfoliator.
When I bought the Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine from Olive Young it was 32,000₩ ($27) for a container of 30 sheets. 10 days later it went on sale for 16,000₩ ($14). So much regret.
My ratings
Price: 3.5/5. I'm so salty about how the price changed just a couple of weeks after I bought it >< Effectiveness: 4.5/5. Now that I use it once a week the results aren't as dramatic as they were at first but I still really enjoy it. Packaging: 3.5/5. This is one that's not good to travel with. Inevitably the liquid in the container leaks everywhere. Overall: 4/5. Repurchase: Yessssss.
TL;DR Bury me with the the Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine so I can have smooth skin in the afterlife.
