Review: Skinfood Tea Tree Spot Oil Kit

I love tea tree oil. It was part of my skincare routine back in America, I would buy bottles of 100% tea tree oil and dilute it myself to make a solution I used as spot treatment for acne or as a toner on days I felt my skin was particularly oily or problematic. However, when I first came to Korea I had trouble finding tea tree oil in any form. Korea, like any other cosmetic market, has trends. On any given day you'll notice that a slew of shops have similar products with the same key ingredients. Tea tree oil is not one of those ingredients... or at least it hasn't been during the time I've lived here.

There is one exception, and that's Skinfood. Skinfood has a Tea Tree Fresh Cleansing Foam, Tea Tree Moisture Cleansing Foam, Tea Tree Soft Bubble Foam, Tea Tree Clearing Toner, Tea Tree Clearing Emulsion, Tea Tree Secret Spot Patch, and Tea Tree Spot Oil Kit. I was in tea tree heaven.

I opted for Skinfood's Tea Tree Spot Oil Kit because it's most similar to what I had used back in the States. The kit comes with a 10 ml bottle of 15% tea tree oil solution and 50 cotton swabs. Pure tea tree oil is irritating so you must always dilute it. Because the solution is already dilutes, it's safe to use directly. Just put a few drops of the solution on a cotton swab and apply it to any acne spots you have.

When used topically, tea tree oil is believed to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. While there isn't sufficient scientific evidence to support many of the proposed uses of tea tree oil there is some evidence supporting its use as an acne treatment. Remember, tea tree oil is toxic when consumed orally and because of so please don't use it around the mouth area. And please, for the love of god, don't put it near your eyes because it burns. This I know from experience ><

Despite being potent, tea tree oil works great with my skin, and that goes for Skinfood's Tea Tree Spot Oil Kit too. I have moderate hormonal acne. Like clockwork my face breaks out about a week before my period start date. I apply some before going to bed as the first step of my skincare routine and normally I notice some improvement overnight.

The price: This kit containing a 10 ml bottle of 15% tea tree oil solution and 50 cotton swabs costs 12,000 ($10). My ratings

Price: 3/5. In the States I could buy a similar sized bottle of pure tea tree oil for less than $10 on Amazon :[

Effectiveness: 4.5/5. I typically see overnight results.

Packaging: 4/5. I use the solution faster than I use the cotton swabs, I wish I could buy the bottle separately. Overall: 4/5. Repurchase? Yes. Save for Skinfood's Tea Tree Secret Spot Patch for now it's the only tea tree spot treatment I can find.

TL;DR So glad to have tea tree oil back in my life.

What do you like to use for spot treatment? Let me know in the comments below ^^
